Gwendolyn R. Waters began working in the field of criminal defense at the age of nineteen in Greenbelt—just up the road from where she attended school at the University of Maryland, College Park. Over twenty years later and Gwen is still tirelessly working to assist those in need of help with their criminal cases. Using her innate talents as a writer, Gwen enjoys and prides herself on telling the stories of her clients with care and dignity in order to secure for them relief in their cases. She has defended people in state and federal courts in cases ranging in severity from serious traffic offenses to death penalty cases. Gwen also has a wealth of experience in appellate and post-conviction work. She was able, as co-counsel, to effectuate the reconsidered sentence and release of a client who had served over 40 years in prison—one month later she was sworn in as an attorney in the State of Maryland. From that time on, she has worked both in private practice and at the Maryland Office of the Public Defender in Prince George’s County, with a goal of helping people during challenging times in their lives.
