Nicholas George Madiou joined Mike Lawlor, and later Brennan, McKenna & Lawlor, following graduation from law school in 2012. He was named partner at BML in 2018. During his ten years of practice, Nick has gained a wealth of trial, appellate and civil rights experience. Nick has tried murder cases in Prince George’s County, Baltimore City, and Montgomery County has argued appeals in the Court of Special Appeals of Maryland and the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit and has worked on countless post-conviction and federal habeas matters. In addition, in 2019, Nick and Mike won three consecutive jury trials in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia.
In addition to trial and appellate experience, Nick is a dedicated and talented legal writer. His memoranda in aid of sentencing have assisted clients in dozens of federal sentencings achieve sentences below what was called for by the federal sentencing guidelines. These results stem from Nick’s client-centered approach – his ability to connect with clients and present their best light to judges, notwithstanding convictions to extremely serious crimes.
Nick also leads the firm’s civil practice, representing clients in personal injury cases, as well as civil rights cases involving misconduct by police.
